Commercial Contracts Attorney

Mees Bloembergen is a lawyer specialising in commercial contracts and assists parties in the trade chain, from manufacturers, suppliers, importers, distributors and commercial agents to wholesalers and retailers.

In this role, Mees assists parties in the manufacturing industry in the creation of international, commercial contracts – such as distribution, franchise, agency, rental, lease and purchase – and draws up (general) sales and purchasing conditions for them. As an experienced commercial contracts lawyer, Mees is involved in the working methods of the company and likes to think along about commercial, strategic choices regarding the creation of orders, payment, delivery, returns and after-sales activities. He incorporates these strategic choices in the tailor-made conditions.

Mees has experience in developing the international sales strategy of manufacturers and brands via distributors, commercial agents and dealers. In doing so, he has an eye for restrictions in the field of competition (such as competition bans, price agreements and online sales), product liability and intellectual property rights.

Furthermore, Mees negotiates and litigates (if necessary) on behalf of nationally and internationally operating manufacturing companies in the event of trade disputes. Often, the (non-)fulfilment of the agreement , the notice period of the sometimes long-term trade relationship, outstanding claims, deliveries of orders and possible damages and customer compensation are central to these procedures.

Experience

Mees started his career as a lawyer in 2019 in the commercial law section of a medium-sized law firm in Amsterdam . Since 2024, Mees has been associated with MAAK Advocaten.

Mees closely follows international legal developments that are relevant to the manufacturing industry.

He attends meetings of the Association for Distribution, Franchise and Agency Law (“DFA”) as a member and is connected to commercial lawyers worldwide through the International Distribution Institute (“IDI”). He has written legal articles for textile industry media.

Mees startte zijn carrière als advocaat in 2019 op de handelsrechtsectie van een middelgroot advocatenkantoor in Amsterdam. Sinds 2024 is Mees verbonden aan MAAK Advocaten.

Mees volgt de voor de maakindustrie relevante, internationale, juridische ontwikkelingen op de voet.

Hij woont als lid bijeenkomsten van de Vereniging voor Distsributie-, Franchise en Agentuurrecht (“DFA”) bij en is verbonden met handelsrechtadvocaten over de hele wereld via het International Distribution Institute (“IDI”). Hij schreef juridische artikelen voor media in de textielbranche.
